This fun presentation traces the development of mysteries through the decades. It begins with Edgar Allan Poe, who created the first detective story, and then examines the influence of Arthur Conan Doyle, Agatha Christie, and the British Detection Club. It includes America’s introduction of the hard-boiled detective, which was an integral part of the Pulp fiction and the film noir era. And the presentation doesn’t forget today’s popular mysteries, including suspense and thrillers. In addition to examining the history, attendees will learn about the tremendous influence Maryland has had on the genre, both then and now.
